Emlyn Budds Curriculum Vitae

Training / Experience

After successfully completing A - Levels, I studied at the Norwich School of Art and Design for 2 years from 1994. I acheived distinctions in Drawing, 3-dimensional design and furniture. This allowed me to gain a place at Loughborough University where I completed a BA(Hons) Degree in Fine Art Sculpture. The course was very traditional studying wood and stone carving, full size figure modelling and portraite, casting and mould making along with lost wax Bronze casting.

Upon completing my studies I worked for Roy Colthered woodcarvers in Brighton, UK for 2 years being responsible for all figurative carving and sculpture. I also worked on reproduction furniture, Architectural carving and restoration.

Wanting to broaden my skills and experience, I then worked at Glyndebourne Opera House making furniture and props for productions of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and 'Othello'.

After a spell working on restoring English Heritage Oak framed buildings, I moved back to Norwich, UK to work at Arthur Bretts. Here I work on the carving of Traditional English Furniture together with bespoke pieces incorperating styles such as Art Nouveau.

I enjoy travelling and visiting new places. I have visited museums in London, Paris, Florence and New York studying how different cultures approach the art of carving.
